
The first batch of AWAH-Z3 was released on June 2, 2024. It has become a great helper for many workers at heights around the world. However, no tool can solve all problems, and no tool will never be damaged. Here are 5 real-world cases of unconventional use.
Case 1: Drill Pulled Out During Lifting

Overview: While lifting, the electric drill suddenly slipped out, causing the built-in crash self-locking component to activate.
Disposal: After descent to the ground safely, the device was returned to the factory. It continues to serve after maintenance.
Tip: Stop lifting first — Z3 will lock the rope automatically — then pull out the drill. Do not suddenly pull out the drill during lifting!
Warning: After the built-in self-locking component is activated, Z3 can safely lower personnel or heavy objects, but must then be scrapped or sent for maintenance. Debris generated by impact may jam the flail block, and the spindle head hole may not withstand a second impact.
Case 2: 80m Cliff Fall

Overview: AWAH-Z3 fell from a cliff about 80m high. Factory inspection found: some damage to gearbox housing, attachment holes and internal gears intact, guide rope bearings corroded and worn, handle damaged.
Disposal: The device was scrapped and returned to the factory for retention.
Tip: Use cow’s tails, carabiners, and anti-drop ropes to connect items that may fall. After contact with water, promptly dry and apply a small amount of lubricating oil to guide rope bearings. Regularly check bearings — if stuck, clean thoroughly and lubricate.
Warning: At 2.3 kg, a falling Z3 generates significant impact force, especially when the attachment hole hits hard ground — cracks may form that are not visible, reducing strength. Devices that have fallen from height should be scrapped.
Case 3: Rope Tail Caught in Wheel

Overview: During lifting, the electric drill did not stop in time, resulting in the rope tail getting stuck in the wheel and the protective sleeve being damaged.
Disposal: After removing the rope and checking that the device was not deformed, it continued to be used.
Tip: Pay close attention to the rope tail and knot during lifting. Tie a knot at the tail of each rope to prevent personnel or heavy objects from slipping off.
Case 4: Bearing Wear from Lack of Lubrication

Overview: Long-time use without lubricating the guide rope bearings resulted in severe wear.
Disposal: Returned to the authorized distributor. Bearings were replaced. The device was put back into use.
Warning: Once a shallow groove wears on a guide rope bearing, it can’t rotate properly and will continue wearing at that position until quickly becoming unusable.
Case 5: Overloaded to Over 1 Ton
Overview: The device was pulled to over 1 ton. The release shaft in the handle was bent.
Disposal: Returned to the manufacturer for inspection. Gears were not damaged — only the shaft was bent. After repair, it continues to serve.
Warning: The nominal load of Z3-PROF is 200 kg; Z3-FIRE is 285 kg. Do not overload! Overloading may damage metal equipment, cause plastic deformation of ropes (reducing strength), and produce dangerous impact forces if the rope system collapses. The greater the overload weight and the more frequent it occurs, the faster the lifespan loss.
AWAH-Z3 is a precision machinery with a gear transmission system and a dual locking system. Understanding its mechanical principles and conducting inspections, evaluations, and maintenance according to the manufacturer’s instructions can help extend its lifespan and improve safety.
